I'm moved by the magic of whales and am motivated to paint them as it becomes imperative to protect them. This breaching female is K-16, or Opus, a member of the Southern Resident Killer Whale Clan. These salmon eating orcas typically travel 75 miles per day in matrilineal groups, all of whom have been identified by the Centre for Whale Research. This acrylic painting of Opus was based on a photo by whale researcher Ken Balcolm.
